UPDATE:
GWINNETT DISTRICT ATTORNEY LOSES AGAIN: ANOTHER BAD CASE
Every day in the United States, innocent Americans are falsely accused of child sexual abuse. Our nation is under siege. This epidemic of staggering proportions damages vulnerable children and victimizes every individual who comes into contact with a child, including you.
No one is safe. If you are a parent, teacher, babysitter or other childcare giver, your chances of being falsely accused of child sexual abuse has risen dramatically in recent years. Once considered a crime no one spoke of, allegations are made today at an astounding rate. But who can we believe?
Our society generates hysteria through sensationalized media stories and churn-and-burn outrage over child molestation, child cruelty, and rape. But what happens when such crimes never occurred? Have we condemned the innocent? Would we want the same fate for ourselves?
We trust our government to deliver justice and to punish those who harm others, especially children. Child sexual abuse crimes can be levied against any individual with little or no evidence. The tainted testimony of vulnerable children subjected to improper interview techniques, authoritative influence and bias can result in life imprisonment or, in some states, death.
Unlike many crimes where guilt or innocence is proven by physical evidence, child sexual abuse crimes are brought to trial every day in courtrooms throughout America based solely on a child's claim of being abused. No physical evidence. No witnesses. No proof that a crime even occurred. Americans generally believe if a child says it happened, the abuse occurred. A child wouldn't make up such claims, have knowledge of how sex occurs, or refer to body parts with those words. Think again.
Good people are ruined every day by this disease. Suicide is all too common to escape the scarlet letter. Guilty or not, no one wants to be in the same room with an accused child molester. The innocent are instantly convicted by public opinion when simply accused of child molestation.
How can this continue to happen? What measures can be taken to validate or invalidate a child's allegations? We must act now to prevent politically influenced criminal prosecutions and the conviction of innocent people. We must encourage our state and federal legislators to act, creating new laws to punish those who bring false allegations of child abuse or neglect.
