BREAKING THROUGH
By ERIK A. COOPER
FOSTERING FAMILIES TODAY
September / October 2007
When he first arrived in my foster home, Rusty seemed painfully shy, quiet and withdrawn. Rumors of Rusty’s fury were shared among his brothers, Richard, Ryan and Bryce. The second eldest of his family, Rusty had the temperament of a silverback gorilla. Rusty’s older and younger siblings were both submissive and tamed around him, avoiding any spark of his temper while staying clear of his path. Slightly taller than most eleven-year-old boys his age, Rusty was still just a boy to me. He was my foster child, someone I needed to understand, to reach, to help break through.

ANATOMY OF THE FOSTER PARENT TRIAL
By ERIK A. COOPER
FOSTERING FAMILIES TODAY
March / April 2007
You’ve been accused of committing a crime involving one of your foster children. Maybe more. The police will find out when they interview every foster child you’ve ever had in your home, and you know some of the kids were not very happy with you. The rebellious teenager, the acting-out eight-year-old, the defiant tween. “You’re not my Mom!” You’ve heard it again and again. The only foster child you don’t have to worry about is the three-week-old infant placed with you seven years ago, unless, of course, she repressed her memory of abuse and has now pinned her depression to that cold baby bottle you fed her.
You knew this could happen.

ERIK CRITICIZES "THE SECRET"
STAR 94 FM (Atlanta, Georgia)
February 9, 2007
"The Secret", a new life enrichment philosophy spreading worldwide, was featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show (February 8, 2007) and Star 94 FM, a popular Atlanta, Georgia radio network. Erik criticized the philosophy's principles claiming one's efforts to will good things to happen will cause good things to happen. Erik's efforts to reform Georgia's adoption laws for foster children failed, no matter how "willing" Erik was to help needy children. Erik said, "I'm a living example of the opposite being true."

THE DEVASTATING EFFECTS OF FALSE ALLEGATIONS: A SURVIVOR'S STORY
By ERIK A. COOPER
FOSTERING FAMILIES TODAY
March / April 2006
An epidemic is spreading across our nation like wildfire. Not since the days of the Fells Acres Day Care and McMartin Preschool tragedies more than 20 years ago has this disease touched so many people and ruined so many lives. We've become a community of alarmists and sensationalists - the combination of which leads to the imprisonment of respectable child caregivers and the devastation of innocent families.
